I am very new at this...I want to try Linux, and I have heard that Mandrake is the best...I am currently downloading the first CD in a .iso format. Do I need to burn this to a CD, or can I just extract the files to my harddrive from the .iso? Please help!

Chances are you want to write it to CD using Nero, NSI, or Eazy CD Creator. They all have options to burn images to CD. You could also extract the files, serve them up via a ftp server, then install mandrake that way, but that seems like more of a hassle :D.

OK, I just found a blank CD lying around the house, so I am gonna burn it(After it is done downloading of course).

Now, do I need to do anything to my BIOS to Boot Linux if I am doing a duel boot?

Also, I only need the FIRST Mandrake CD, right?

The Mandrake install will create a dual boot using LILO or grub. You don't need to goof around with your bios.

In most cases you can install from an .iso image without burning it to a CD - just check for instructions on the distribution's homeapge.

Yes, you do only need the first CD for Mandrake. Plus, if you enable 'expert mode', then you can tell it which CDs you have and don't have.
