I have just installed RH7.2 in a dual boot setup with win2k pro. I'm booting into RH7.2 with a floppy disk and use the bootlooder to boot into win2k. I had planned to install lilo into /boot not on the MBR and then configure the win2k boot loader to boot both win2k and RH.

I looked for lilo.conf in the /etc dir but all I could find was lilo.conf.anaconda. This file looks like lilo.conf and has the right stuff in it. I changed it the way I wanted and typed in lilo to install it to hdb2 the /boot partation and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong here? or Am I going about this in the wrong way. I tried using Grub and it will only boot to RH. Thanks for any help. :)

Try renaming it to just lilo.conf then run lilo -v -t to see any errors occur, then if there aren't any, run lilo.

Thanks for the reply I will try that. Since I plan to install lilo to hdb2 and not the MBR is there a way to tell if it is installed there?

What I plan to do is after lilo is installed to edit the win2k boot.ini file with the location of lilo on hdb2 so it 7.2 will boot from the ntloader? Think this will work? I have no idea never tried it before.

Thanks again :)

Yeah, that's possible, see here:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/Linux+NT-Loader.html

Just edit your lilo.conf and edit the boot section to:

boot = /dev/hdb2
