Is there a list of commands for newbies. This is sad....I just installed slackware with xwindows and when it boots it boots to the root and I have no idea how to launch/run kde. How would I do this? Thanks for the help

If youre new to linux, its probably a bad idea to start with slackware. I recommend Mandrake 8.0.

BUT, if you MUST start with slackware, startx is a good place to start. If that doesnt work, then post here with information about your video card, and what error messages youre getting.

My apologies for lacking apostrophes, but links is being funky right now.

Try any or all of these: startx, kdm, gdm, startkde. You can also try xdm, but it is messy. You can also add a user there at the root prompt, type adduser and answer the questions, the first just naming your new user. Reboot, log in as the new user and type startx, and that should get you into WM (window maker) or something. ;)

There's an NHF for this too:
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/commands/index.html

Hope this helps.

If you press TAB twice in the CLI or a terminal you'll get a list of every command in your system!
