Can anyone tell me how to fix my sound in linux (mandrake) ? Most sound effects and music are distorted - the only thing so far that's played ok is CD audio.

You probably haven't setup your soundcard properly.

Try "sndconfig" that should help

Make sure the option your selecting in sndconfig is the same as the kind of soundcard you have

Is your soundcard a secret?

If you don't want to tell us what soundcard you are using, then may I suggest you try searching Google for

"<insert soundcard here> distorted"

If you have the kernel source installed, then have a look through the sound docs to see if there's anything mentioned/suggested.

/usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound

Look in windows device manager, or power down your system pop the cover and pull the snd crd out and look at it. It will usually say on the board or the chip. :D
