Well as a few of you know, I downloaded an 85 meg file last night that I need to transfer to another computer. I thought I could easily set up Samba as I have done before. Boy was I wrong. Well to start with, the Linux machine isn't showing up in the Windows machine's network neighborhood. I don't know where to name the Linux machine unless it's in resolv.conf. The second problem is that the Linux machine can't mount Samba shares. It says, "failed to load nls 'iso 8859-1'." Again, could someone save me from throwing my computer out of the window? Thanks.

When you compiled your kernel, did you compile in support for both the Smb protocol and the vfat file system? That might have something to do with it.

Yes I do. Actually at first smbclient told me that I didn't have smb built into the kernel so I had to recompile it. I don't know why Samba would need vfat support but even if it does, I have support for it because my mp3's are on a vfat drive.
