Log-file for diagnosing system startup?

Is there a log-file where i can view what system processes failed to start at startup?

I use red hat wolverine with kernel 2.4.3 :p

Try typeing:

dmesg


Also check various places like /var/log (and the various logs found there)

Thanks, the filename is /var/log/boot.log

You will find most of the system log files in /var/log and the log definitions in /etc/syslog.conf.
