Ok i called my ISP (Bellsouth) and they don't support Linux :( but said they know some people use it. So my question is do any of you have an idea how to set it up? I have a Rockwell HCF 56K Data Fax PCI modem. it's on com2. I can get it to run through the "query modem" ok but when i go to dial up it stalls just before dialing the numbers. Or seems to anyways. I am setting it up on Linux-Mandrake 7.2
I also have sound problems but one at a time. LOL Thanks :p

ahh!!! dont tell me that. i live in al too, and ive used bellsouth since '95. if thats the case, i will be willing to switch to at&t or somethin. im just about to put drake 7.2 back on my comp with a duelboot. if i find errors without being able to fix them before 5am, im switching to at&t right away. even tho i love bellsouth, and use icw, complete choice plan, etc with them, at&t is really stable. i used them for a free month once. anyways, my icq is 10338294. i gotta run defrag anyways, so message me

There is a list of hardware that will work with Mandrake on their website, did you look in there? There are also a couple of mandrake sites that may have more info. Mandrakeforum.org and mandrakeuser.org.

Not supporting Linux means that they will not provide technical support to assist you in setting up the isp in Linux or configuring the modem.

Lots of posts here on modems/kppp/isp's etc. Just do a search and also read the modem NHF's.

Verify that your particular modem is not a winmodem. If it is, you may still be able to get it to work. Check www.winmodems.org (http://www.winmodems.org) or www.linmodems.org (http://www.linmodems.org)

Appreciate your thoughfulness of just asking one question at a time. I tend to stay away from the 'Lots of questions here (10)' as it gets a little much. IMHO.
