System: Linux 2.2.16 Redhat 7 with ipchains 1.3.9.

I have a firewall computer packet filtering and masquerading for an workstation. All the rules are working correctly, the firewall is solid, but it SLOWS my access to the internet drastically. I thought maybe my provider was just being quirky, but i took the computer off the firewall and tested it on direct cable modem and it was as fast as should be expected. I cannot think of any reason why the firewall should slow it down so much.

If anyone recognizes this problem, i'd really appreciate pointers.

*umm*

to be honest we'd need to see the ruleset your using ..
further : hardware involved... i.e .. networrk cards and settings.
(have you contemplated what happens jumping from 10Mbs half duplex over UTP to 10Mbs BNC.... (my situation) ... which realizes about a 5% - 7% performance hit...)

I'd be more suspicious of the network settings on the interface cards than the ipchains rules...
