problem with vi

I've recently figured out how to mark a line in the vi editor, but i need that information to be dropped into a seperate file. Is there documentation on this somewhere?

Since you are using vi, you may also have vimtutor installed (open a terminal and issue this command: locate vimtutor). If you have vimtutor, issue this command: vimtutor. Scroll down to section 5.3 A SELECTIVE WRITE COMMAND. It will tell you how to write part of a document to a seperate file.
