I hope I can explain this right. I have wu-ftd installed and added a guest user to access /var/ftp. My brother who knows linux did most of it from Seattle using SSH. Now after I made all these changes when I try to ftp in as root or as a guest, the connection will hang for about 10-20 seconds before displaying my directory. it I am running RH 7.0 server installation with Windowmaker. Its on a P2-266 with 128 RAM on a DSL connection with a Linksys router. Thanks.

*eeks*

1) immediately turn off root access for your ftp server ... this is a great gaping, nasty security hole.

2) look at your dns setup and turn off wu-ftp's resolve connecting address function. a) your dns may not be behaving properly on reverse dns lookups and b) looking up hostnames is a slow process to start with.
