[deadlock]

does anyone have any idea how I check which verson of Mesa I have installed ? I compiled the latest verison and I want to make sure that it installed itself properly.

That would depend on your LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Look in /etc/ld.so.conf - /usr/local/lib should be the first line, and if you look in /usr/local/lib, you should find your libGL.so (and various links for it) that you compiled.
