Is this still true? Lovechild 04-19-2001, 10:24 AM SOO !!! :D DEBIAN :D XxMaCaBrExX 04-19-2001, 10:25 AM Originally posted by ggeck: <STRONG>I remember reading there were difficulties with installing Ximian (helixcode) on Mandrake. Domin 04-19-2001, 12:08 PM Cool! Anyone know when this'll be hitting store shelves? I don't wanna download the whole thing on a 56k modem... ;) Mandrake ;) kuber 04-19-2001, 12:28 PM  Mandrake :rolleyes  Slackware  SUOrangeman 04-19-2001, 01:31 PM I've got seven URLs for each ISO and am using GetRight (yeah, yeah, Windows. I know ...) to segment each file over five sites. Getting a max of 11KB/s on one ISO and 1.4 KB/s on the other. Gonna be a long night! -SUO TW_Powell 04-19-2001, 08:49 PM O.K. I can't think of anything clever. No suprise there, is it possible to download MD8.0 on a 56k modem? signed X-TREME NEWBIE. MikePark 04-19-2001, 09:03 PM Originally posted by TW_Powell: <STRONG>O.K. For example, and ftp client. If your using windows, use download accelerator. I'm on adsl, I usually get 2.5mb/s but right now, the mandrake8.0 mirrors are flooded, I'm only getting like 134K-150K/s. I don't know about 56k, that's why I suggest any download client with resume capabilities. For M8.0, I'm guessing that it will take you a week to download by the way the sites are responding. HuggyBear 04-19-2001, 09:12 PM Ever since they got rid of the penguin with the magic hat and cape as their logo, I lost interest. Huggy  Debian  Actually I like Mandrake as a desktop distro. Their installer is great. TW_Powell 04-19-2001, 09:22 PM So, by the time I download, I should be able to buy the cd's, even in the sticks where I live. I'm using MD 7.2 and I don't know about being able to resume a download. Although, I did spend about 1.5 days downloading updates with numerous interuptions in service, and it didn't seem as though the disruptions caused any undue discomfort. They continued as if I hadn't been disconnected at all. Is this a good sign? Krome 04-19-2001, 10:48 PM Mandrake is nice for some folks, but when I couldn't configure it the way I wanted! I switched to Redhat!! And I love it, but I think I will install slackware on my p200 to play with it a little. Heaven only knows why I love command line better than X! Oh, now I remember... It's faster than X :) [ 19 April 2001: Message edited by: Krome ] Space-Cadet 04-20-2001, 01:14 AM I'm tempted to try Mandrake 8... I don't see a reason to. You can get RedHat just as ummm... spiffy looking, if you work at it. More customization with RedHat... thats why I originally switched from Mandrake, to it. And I plan to switch to Slackware, once a new one is released... justlinux.com
