we have a tapestor drive to do backups on however it is supposed to have hardware compression so it can store 20 gb of data it is not storing this amount so i presume compression is not being enabled anyone know how to do a backup with hardware compression or even software on the fly. ( we do not have room to store a zipped version of the data to store on the tape ) There is no switch to turn compression on like some drives anyone have this drive that can point me in the right direction.

There is some docs on ftape, compression and others here (http://linux.nf/stepbystep.htm) that may help.

Have you also tried the How-To's at www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org) ?
