Is this a Redhat system? For some reason with Redhat, I had to use my <DHCP server address> instead of <mail>. Don't have a clue why.

You can get that information from @home. Mine looks something like this: 24.4.48.32

You could also try using the domain name.

Mine would be 'mail.bloor.on.wave.home.com'.

had that problem for a short time, when I reformatted and re-installed everything.

Make sure your DNS servers are entered correctly for your node. "mail" is an alias that's recognized by your assigned DNS server, and will resolve to the correct smtp/pop host for you.

Well, i am kinda scared to go backinto the network settings :) I had a heck of a time trying to get it setup, I don't remember what I did to get it to go online, and don;t want to trash the settings. Liek the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" or in 'puter terms don't tweak it. anyway, I don't recall seeing ANY thing about DNS when I was messing with it, just IP, host, HTTP and FTP proxys. This is what I got from the site
<please don't ping me to death lol>
HOST= ci523157-* <can't give ya the rest :)
DNS=24.2.233.15 / 24.2.233.17
GATEWAY=24.181.7.1
IP <mine> 24.181.7.X <can't give ya that one neither :)
so , NO mail DNS numbers???? HELP :)

type "ping mail"
if it pings something then use that ip as your mail server instead of just mail in your mail client.
if it doesn't ping anything then you have some dns issues. If you have another computer or you dual boot you could try pinging mail from there and writing down the ip if you really didn't want to fix the dns issues.

Just finished setting up my new Netware/BorderManager server at home for NAT, Proxy, Firewall etc. to use with Rogers @home.

My Mail Proxy uses 'mail.bloor.on.wave.home.com' which is the correct pop3 and smtp server to use for @home in my area. Your will most likely be 'mail.your.area.home.com'.

When using @home under UNIX/Linux, you have to use more than just 'mail'. Following is an example of how I have to set my account up:

mail.bchgrv1.in.home.com

It took me awhile to figure that out, as well.

Oops.....sorry.

I should have read mdwatts' post before sending mine off (he beat me to it). His post is absolutely right.

Damn, it was that simple, I do this alot. Try to solve it by looking at the "harder" issues instead of starting with the most simple one...lol pinged mail.ganvil1.ga.home.com, and "SLAP"....there it was.

thx guys :)
