Hi people, I have been using my disk for quite a long time but the other day I heard the drive making some noise and had to restart the system again. But when I did that the disk would not boot and I fear that the data might be deleted or lost. So, if you people have any know about the ways to get this done right or if you can at least suggest me the ways to handle this …it will be a great help.

The disk is on its way out.

A cure (http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=149328).

Mount the disk on another system and copy the data over.

Once, I had a disk that failed during the copying process, the disk seems to be getting very hot, more than I would expect even though I realize it was working real hard, I ended up putting the malfunctioning disk in the refrigerator for several hours, then re-mounted and started the copy again, and it worked!

I've also swapped drive electronics over in the past but that can be risky.

Depends how valuable the data is - if it's that valuable to you, I trust you already have a backup.

There are various data recovery tools out there, and companies who can help.
