I'm looking for motherboard with integrated graphic with the most supported in linux and x.org.
Criteria:
1)nortbridge chipset: nvidia or amd but no intel.
2)cpu: don't care. amd or intel.
3)board brand: asus,msi or dfi
point 3 is not too significant so any suggested brand still welcomed.
But the most important thing is the chipset for linux support.
Any suggestion?
Tnx.

Odd thing is that you said no Intel, but from where I sit, Intel seems to be making the most "linux supported" stuff.

I recently got a ASRock ALiveNF7G-HD720p R5.0, and it works fairly well, though I do have to use the binary Nvidia drivers for the video as the opensource nv ones don't seem to work with the onboard Nvidia 7050 video (at least they didn't when I tried it last month).

because intel chipset uses intel graphic adapter yes?
just want to spice up my life a bit to use better graphic chip(nvidia/ati)
without burning hole in my pocket..
c'mon.. why should i use intel graphic if i can use nvidia/ati in linux??
or maybe vice-versa? hope not.. :D

If the graphic card is embedded into the mobo you don't pay extra for it. the video is a freebie thus it won't the the latest technology or the cutting edge stuff.
I still run a Asrock mobo, about 2 to 3 years old, that got it. Don't think I have ever bother with Linux not recognising it. To be honest I don't even need to care about what chipset or the driver being used by the distros.

If you want to spice up your life, get one of those PCIe mobo and a video card from nvidia... I got a XFX 7950 (passive cooling) thats pretty spicy :)

A couple of months ago I picked up a PCchips MB/chip combo from Tiger Direct at a good price. It is doing fine with my Debian. I did have some problems with resolution, but that is fixed now.
Their best deals seem to change every day. Keep an eye on boards, combos, and barebones computers for a while.

Hi guys. I'm looking for a recommendation as well (I guess I'm too lazy to start a new thread for the same... ;-)).
I wish to gift my mom her very first notebook. I've zeroed in on the following two machines:
Compaq V3749AU
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60
NVidia MCP67M chipset
NVidia GeForce Go 7150M IGP (supports a max. of 799 Mbytes of (shared???) video memory)
HP Compaq 6515b
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60
AMD M690T chipset
ATi Mobility Radeon X1250 IGP (supports a max. of 512 Mbytes of shared video memory)
The rest of the specs are mostly similar, with the 6515b being sturdier, having better battery life, and also a Gigabit Ethernet adapter. My mom, a casual computer user, intends to run Ubuntu on the machine, with all the bells and whistles (read Compiz, etc.). Now I'm not that much into graphics cards, but the last time I heard, support for ATi cards on Linux was patchy at best. And I hate to admit it, but graphics card benchmarks are all Greek to me... :o
What say... which one of these would be a better choice?

I'd go with the nvidia board for sure... I've got a macbook with an ati mobility radeon 1600, and it can't possibly be any worse than that.

@je_fro: I think I'll give the X1250 a pass, since it appears that Compiz blacklists *certain* Mobility Radeon cards on Ubuntu (see here (http://ubuntu-utah.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=765875)).
Now, I have a new question.
What about the Intel X3100 IGP? Is it better than the GeForce 7150M? I've checked the spec sheets of both these IGPs (here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/mobogpu_nb_7series_specs.html) and here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#Table_of_GMA_graphics_cores_and_chipsets )). It appears that the 7150M can do a fair bit of HD decoding on its own. On the other hand, it has DirectX support only till ver. 9, while the Intel X3100 supports ver. 10 as well...
I'm really confused now...

Am finally going with the GeForce Go 7150M (who would play DX10 games on an IGP anyway...? )
Thanks guys.
