Hi all. Hope I have the printer thing fixed so here goes another.

I have the OP loaded with nothing else on it. I have had xp on first and loaded 2008 after with dual boot but can I install xp-pro on that drive now or will it trash the 2008? If it's possible, how. Tnx agn for the help.

Richard / real newbie but learning.

Usually, it's preferable to install Windows first and then Linux, since Windows will overwrite the Master Boot Record. GRUB or LILO are much more intelligent than the Windows Boot Loader. However, if you make a boot disk from Linux, you can get back to Linux after installing Windows and you can fix GRUB or LILO.

I was afraid of that. At this point in time I have some progs that will not run under Linux so I still need xp. Like to have both OS's on one drive so I don't have to switch cables. Question is , what is easier? Remember I am a newbie and wonder about your suggestion. Tnx agn.

Well, you have other options. You might try WINE to run your Windows programs or you can use a virtual machine. This may sound hard but it's really not. Then Windows can run as a virtual machine inside of Linux. Just remember, Google is your friend.
