I've installed RH 7 and it was fully operational until yesterday. Then I got the idea to see if I could make my soundcard to work. I started setup and used the soundoption. Then it just hanged and everytime I boot up linux, it just hangs. Anyone know how to correct this problem? Is there a way to prevent linux from loading the "default" configuration?
I've got a VIA onboard soundchip.

Hi,
I have solved most of my snd problems by the following:When in GUI press ctrl+alt+f3 The computer will go into the command mode..Type in "Root" and then your "root password"(no quotes)..Then type in "sndconfig" This will open the sound configuration program..Follow instructions and it will try to configure your snd card and play two sound clips..If it can't configure it you will have to type in your cards numbers such as input/output IRQ and DMA's..
When done you can leave that mode by typung in "shutdown -r now" Your cpmputer will reboot and hopefully you will have sound..
Good Luck,
JP

The problem is that I cant boot up linux. It comes to the point where it probs for the soundcard and then it just hangs. So I cant use the prompt to fix this.
Do you know of any way to boot up linux in "safe" mode? Do you know of a way to bypass this?

Use a bootdisk. You did create one?
You could probably enter 'safe mode' or something similar through the lilo/grub boot prompt. Redhat should have documentation on this. Sorry, I'm not a RH user.
