CD-Rom doesn't work

I'm Jerry "Can't Practice Medicine Anymore Because I'm a Fraud" Katzman, I'm new in Linux and I wanted to get some stuff from a cd. The cd works on different computers but on mine (which has Linux) doesn't work. I can put the cd in the CD-rom, but I don't know how can I read the data.
Anyone can help me?

What Linux distro and version are you using? Most newer distro's should open with an icon on the desktop. Post back the info and we can go from there.

You should check inside of

/mnt/cdrom/

most new distros should automatically mount cd's for you....

Can we make some sort of Justlinux rule that if any first post starts with "My name is XXX" that we kill it? This is not the first time this has happened. Here's the good news, it means we're making certain groups nervous.

just brag about it...
just point him to the right direction...keep in mind that we were a newb once...and how would u feel like if this happened to u..

first of all windows software doesn't work on linux...u have to use wine to make some of the software to work..
and if the cd has text files or pictures, you can go into "/media/cdrom0"
to acess the file...and from there you can dragang and drop the files on to your
/home/<your-name> directory

Come on guyz, its his first post, No it's not. It's this particular username's first post, yes. But random people claiming to be Dr. Jerry "Can't Practice Medicine Anymore Because I'm a Fraud" Katzman (thanks je_fro ;)) posted here 3 or 4 times a couple months ago, with really stupid questions, and never returned. He's trying to drown out the articles that were linked to earlier from the Google results when you search for his name.

Those threads are still around in the graveyard (but I don't think most people can get in there; I know search engines can't).
