Hey guys,

I am trying Linux again(not much success or time spent on it previously) and I have openSuse 10.3. So far I love it and I am wanting to make a complete change and not use Windows at all. But one thing holds me back

In my free time I enjoy downloading music and more importantly tv shows like 24. iTunes so far has been perfect. I just log in, find the movie/show/music I want and click download. Is there an alternative to itunes or can it run on Windows without too much difficulty? I like doing things the legal way so is there a site or sites where I can download the shows/music legally after paying and also has the selection that itunes has?

I saw a posting about itunes alternatives doing a search and it mentioned Amarok. But my understanding is that Amarok is just a player for music and you cant actually buy stuff through it.

Any help would be terrific.

Thanks!

First there is no law against using both Windows and Linux, one at at time by a boot loader or together in a virtual machine aenvironment. You can therefore use whatever you want from both systems to serve your needs.

The paid data you download are just data and Linux software should play them just like what the Windows software would, except for avoiding legal disputes many distros are shipped without the necessary software and leave to the users to install them.

Thus my suggestion would be test run your downloaded files with Linux and install the missing components to play them.

You might also try simply running iTunes under Wine in Linux. See here: http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2007/10/itunes-73-on-linux-with-wine.html for a description of how to set things up. It's an older version of iTunes but the setup should probably be pretty close for the latest too.
