Searching these archives, I read that the boot partition for linux must be below 1024 cylinders on the hard drive. Is this true for SuSE 7.1?
The reason I ask: I want the first 30GB of my hard drive for Windows and the last 10GB for Linux, which is past the 1024 cylinder limit (8GB, right??).
If that's not possible, can I interleave linux and Windows partitions? I haven't installed Linux yet, so can I just use Windows fdisk to make the proper partitions?
I've read the NHF on partitions, but it didn't address partitions of Windows and Linux on the same hard drive or the 1024 cylinder limit.
Thanks for help!

On the newest version of LILO (boot loader this is not a concern.
Any way...if you want a dual boot from the HD the best place for LILO is the MBR.

Not even the 'Overcoming LILO dual-boot problems' NHF? Strange...

Thanks for the tip to the NHF. I was reading the multi-partition NHF and didn't see the lilo one http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/installation/partition/multi_partition.html.
Hopefully, SuSE 7.1 comes with a recent-enough LILO so I don't have to worry about that :) My main prob now is getting my ATI Radeon 64DDR to work. Here's the link I plan on using (found from this site, of course) for anyone else w/ the same video card: http://www4.ncsu.edu/~distclai/rage128-howto.html

You should go get Partitio Magic 5.0 (6.0 if your running ME) and move the windows partition to the end of the HD, then install linux on the beginning, before the 1024 boundary. If you try to install SuSE on a linux partition that crosses the 1024 boundary, it will tell you that the parition will not be bootable. I don't know of any other software that allows you to move partitions. But I've always used Partition Magic, so my knoledge of products is limited.

SystemCommander2000 works well. It also includes a boot manager. You can move your win partition to the end of the disk and install linux below 1024.
