One of your best FRIENDS (http://www.google.com/linux)
Any questions you might have just ask. There are some great sources.

A few points you will find out in a matter of time.

(1) You can keep your MS systems while using Linux to access all your data.

(2) Gradually you will find nearly all Linux will work on your PC.

(3) You will understand better how MS systems work after a short exposure to Linux.

(4) The life span is short for the knowledge operating a MS Windows because M$ need $ by bringing out a new system periodically. Knowledge with Linux is for life because it only gets improved continuously.

(5) Linux is designed to be configurable and you need to get your hand dirty to know how to configure it, especially with terminal commands.

And if I might add, if you truly want to learn linux, read, read, read, Here (http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html.gz) is a place to start. Something that will help also that you may not know, Linux is Linux. What I mean by that is, if you learn the command line as saikee mentioned in (5) you will be at home in any linux distro. Under all the GUI stuff linux is the same (for the most part).

But the most important thing of all, is to have fun!

No one ever suggest HD caddies. (hard drive mobile rack). They are so cheap and with one, you can keep your dirty hands off Windows while having fun with Linux. Look into purchasing one.

@ mtsm:
there is a site called http://linuxbasics.org that you may want to look into. There are tutorials and they even have a 'class' for beginners.
The link posted by mrrangerman43 is what the course is based on, but edited to hit only the main parts. After you learn the basics, then the rute book will come in very handy.
