the cmd for taking screenshots?

I've looked for the cmd on some sites, though i didn't found it, so maybe it doesn't exist, or i just didn't looked like i had to.. anyone know if there's a cmd to take a screenshot, and if yes, what's the cmd? also, is it then possible to take a screenshot when i'm in terminal mode instead of X?

Most people take screen shots using GIMP - it's a selection under one of the menus.

never saw that option.. well, doesn't matter, normally i take my screenshots with gkrellm or ksnapshot. taking screenshots isn't a problem, though i'd like to know the cmd for it
anyone an idea?
