ok I installed mandrake 10 some time back and I had it running pretty good after I got it installed but one night in the middle of boot up I tripped my foot on the power cord and the pc turned off and it doesnt ant to boot back. just stops in the mid of boot up now. I need help. Did the same thing a few weeks later after re-installing and same thing. just halt in the middle of boot up and I have to re-install the O/S.

Could you please post the point where it blocks? Also, try booting form your mandrake cD, and type rescue for the boot options, and then run an fsck on your disk, perhaps a file got corrupted..

thx, I will have to get that system back up. I got mad and re-installed XP. but I will soon install a different distro of linux I just dont know what one to use for a newbie.

mandrake is a fine choice for a beginner. There are many newbie-friendly distros now. In the future, the installation distro with the rescue option is a good idea. You should also be able to boot from a live-evaluation CD and then backup important files to some other media.
