I just installed windows 98 after installing Redhat 7, and selfish windows wrote it's own MBR or something because LILO doesn't show up. Figures...
I created a boot disk during Redhat install but when I try to boot linux using the boot disk it gives me the following error:
Invalid session number or type of trac
Kernal panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:45
Yup, Bill will rewrite your MBR for you, and hose LILO in the process.
Solutions have been posted here before, so try the Forum Search for the answer.

at the lilo prompt from the boot disk type "mount root=/dev/hdXX"
hdXX being the partition linux was installed on and all should be fine just rerun lilo to get it back once you've booted it with the above solution

Thanks that was very helpful..linux was trying to boot to /hda/hdb5 instead of /dev/hdb6. typing "linux mount root=/dev/hdb6" fixed everything :)

You will also need to add the option in /etc/lilo.conf to boot Windows and then rerun lilo again.
And please just post ONCE in the appropriate forum. Lets make it fair for everyone.
