I've gotten the 2.4.3 kernel compiled, and made modules even though I did get about four errors at the finish. I'll list those later. Only thing I did differently this time in my procedure is used xconfig instead of menu. Still don't understand what went wrong the in the menuconfig. Still had something to do with sysctl_ipx_pprop_broadcasting. Anyhow will just have to fool with it later.

When in xconfig there were numerous options that were grayed out, but in menuconfig I remember being able to select them or not. What's this all about?

My previous kernel was original installed kernel with my Mandrake 7.2. With this new kernel I didn't see any selection for DHCP (which my dsl uses for IP), and therefore I selected BOOTP and RARP, not knowing if this would work or not, but did not and timed out on boot up. How do I resolve this?

Also one last. My previous kernel stated it was a 'secure' kernel. What exactly is this? Secure from hacking?

to get those extra options, try goin g to the first menu in the config program. itll sak you if you want to use duddy code (basically not mature code, has something to do with that). this option allows access in the newer kernels to things like reiserfs so i assume itll fix your prob as well!
