I just got mandrake 7.2 and I am very mad. I can't get it to load a GUI, it won't support my display card, network card, printer, Archos Jukebox, FireWire hard drive...so here is my question: What exactly IS the big deal about an operating system that uses its own file system, doesn't even have any icons, and makes my multimedia-drenched laptop look like some Commodore 64?
Read my other post and see what the problem is. Could somebody solve my problem or at least tell me what the purpose of Linux is?

I agree.
If you've already posted to the Rants forum, you'll get answers to your frustrated questions there (and you might even find that Linux is not for you). However, if you decide to give it a try, we are more than willing to help. You'll find a wealth of knowledge in the users here, but in this forum we tend to concentrate our efforts on helping people solve specific problems, instead of evangelizing Linux usage in general.
Anyway,
I'm off to the Rants forum now to see how your thread there is thriving. ;)

Nothing wrong with a Commodore 64 or even the Vic 20. Had both way back when.
FireWire HD? Never heard of anyone ever using FireWire with Linux. Is it supported?
Did you do the recommended research into hardware compatability before investing all that money into getting a Linux distro?
