Hi all,
Finally I've chosen redhat as my first-ever linux system. And before I even start installing linux, I ran into this problem.
I downloaded the iso images from the linuxiso site and burned them onto 2 CDs using Easy CD Creator. Since I have and am keeping Win98; according to the manual, I should copy the fips files into the boot disk. However, I can't even open the redhat file on the CD.
Does anyone know why and how could I overcome the problem?
the file on the CD has an extension of "iso"? Did I do something wrong or did I miss something when I tried to burn the CD?
Thanks in advance.

it has to be an iso
you have to make bootable cds, so you can probably throw your cds away: you'll probably have an option in your cd burner (i used two different burners on windows, and both had that option) to make a bootable cd or a so-called "image". it will then ask you which file you want to burn i suppose, and it's more then possible that you can only select files from a certain file-type, which isn't .iso (i'm sorry, i don't remember what filetype it will probably be) anyways you set it to "show all files" and then select your iso. it will start burning just like with any other cd, though this it will be bootable
then you set somewhere in your bios to boot from cd and put your cds in your cdrom thing, then the redhat installation will appear

From what you are saying, you burned a copy of the downloaded iso file. Carefully read the directions on how to burn the image here: http://www.linuxiso.org/winoncdrwin.html

Actually, as long as you don't have another burning program that supercedes Easy CD, I think you can just doubleclick on the .iso to load it into Easy. Otherwise do the following after you've put the blank cd in and Easy CD has detected it and launched its main menu:
1. Choose Make a Data CD
2. Then choose the second option after that (Not DirectCD and I'm talking about the latest EZ CD version too although this may apply to others)(Sorry, I forget the actually menu name)
3. Click on File and choose Create CD from Image. In the box that pops up, you should have the option to change the viewed filetype to .iso.
Hope this helps. Sorry its not that specific but I'm at work and don't have access to the program here. :)
Oh, good luck with Red Hat. Its a good choice to start out with. If you install everything, I think the install size is between 2 and 3 gig. :)
