I know this is totally off subject but I need a simple sendmail smtp server for my forum, can anyone suggest a sit or host that does this for little or no cost. It has to be standard smtp, avoiding ssl and security, aka simple AUTH method using plaintext username/password....

thanks :D

Who is hosting the forum? They should (maybe...) have outgoing SMTP. I'd say use your ISPs, but many ISPs block outbound connections to port 25 when the destination isn't their SMTP server...

www.freehostia.com is the host and that is a issue, that host has the ports changed with SSL and phpBB2 is set for simple, I don't know of any host's that do simple email hosting anymore.. I didn't know if anyone knew of any free server still running mail in the stone ages....

I thought about setting up my celeron2.0Ghz for this, its sitting in the closet, but its an awfull lot for just that function...

I may have to look for a host that offers everything they offer with smtp/pop3, my forum goes down once a day, just a regular annoyance.

If you change hosts, look at linode.com - full root access, etc. starting at $20/mo. I've got mine setup and I'm hosting a few domains for web stuff, email, etc.
