Running RH 7.0, Using gnome, set-up modem (external)with dial-configuration. Entered everything(dns,username,password). Linux auto detected my modem. When I use the debug option it dials out. Now when I use the ppp dialer to connect to my isp, it says failed to activate device. I have tried com1 and com2 with no success. anyone have a clue? someone has pointed me to kde setup; however, that was unsuccessful too. :confused:

I've never used or setup a modem in Linux (all ethernet).

I would suggest you try the modem NHF's or search through the many modem posts in the forums for suggestions while you wait for someone with more experience.
