Hey guys, I'd appreciate it if you could help this newbie out with the following.

I recently downloaded SuSE 7.1 from an FTP. I made sure I got the correct version and I downloaded everything to make sure I hadn't missed out on any vital files.
Everything had been downloaded to my E: partition and to a folder labelled "7.1".
I then proceeded to copy the contents of that folder to the root of E, as I had been told this was necessary.

Using a borrowed SuSE 6.4 CD i booted up and proceeded to install. Specifying the correct partition and location went without problems and everything installed as it should.
However after that I foolishly misconfigured the Xfree86 server using SAX. Ever since I cannot enter SAX as my monitor displays an error stating the HF and VF are out of range, and goes into standby mode.
My own stupid fault, and I cant seem to fix it, so I wanted to reinstall.

The problem was that I had returned the borrowed CD and had to use bootdisks now. I made one and was greeted by the same menus as when using the CD. However, upon specifying the correct partition and directory ("/"), it fails to find the image file! I'm clueless about how to fix this as Ive changed nothing since installing the first time, booting with the CD...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You should be able to download the diskette install images to get the install going.

Then try the FAQ here (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/faq/faqw.py?req=all#6.11) at LNO on installing from a mounted iso.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, although I cant seem to find any of the said image files. I made a modules disk to do an FTP install instead.
It bugs me that I cant to do a HD one though, and I find it strange that using the 6.4 installation CD it does find the image, but using a 7.1 bootdisk it doesnt...

Zeddicus.

in /etc/XF86Config (or if your running an X4.x.x /etc/X11/XF86Config) are two lines in the MONITOR section labelled hfreq and vfreq.
make sure you have the values from your Monitors manual and correct them.

Alternate plan #2 from the command line interface, xf86config -- answer the questions carefully as they come up. again, you should use only precise matches for card make/model and monitor name ... or provide the details from your monitor manual.
