Very grateful if someone could shed some light on the problem I'm having. It looks like I'm not alone from the large volume of related thread and how-tos.

I'm still a newbie so don't really know what I'm doing when I'm working through other people's scripts, and sadly, most of the time it is not explained.

I have a Belkin f5d7001 Wireless Card (Broadcom Chipset) and I'm trying to get it working on Feisty.

In the beginning, the card was found by Ubuntu, but not configured correctly. I assumed this was a driver problem, and everything I've since done has been an attempt to set up working drivers.

I've tried using Native drivers, and using NDISWRAPPER...

I've tried bcmwl5, and bcmwl5a

At some point, the WIRELESS NETWORK disappeared from Network manager, but I'm guessing that's as a result of something that I did.

Also, SPM is having problems, due to a crash installing the bcm43xx.deb file, which I can neither remove or install again.

The error I receive when trying to access SPM is

"E: the package bcm43xx-firmware needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
E: Internal error opening cache (1). PLease report."

I am using a laptop running XP on the same wireless network that I want my Ubuntu desktop to access, and it works fine.

N.B> This is the machine I am using to make this post. I have no wired connection. As a last resort, I may run a big long ethernet cable upstairs.
