I'd say it is a winmodem. I've have heard before of flakey software that will make a winmodem work but I don't recall what it was. If you don't know already winmodems are software driven and use your cpu to do some of its work. I would consider getting a hardware modem as in one with a controller. Sometimes its hard finding out whether a modem is a win or hardware. One thing that might alert you that it is a win modem is if the min requirements state
pentium +
and win95 98,nt 2000 ect

non win modem have lesser requirements like
486 and dos 5.0

Usually isa modems are not winmodems, but in your case, it looks like yours in fact is a winmodem.

You may be able to find drivers that will work with your modem. Try www.winmodems.org (http://www.winmodems.org) and I think www.linmodems.org (http://www.linmodems.org)

One of my works pc's came with a GVC internal winmodem which I never bothered to try to get to work since everything is ethernet. Since I see so many questions here on modems/winmodems, I thought I would give it a try to see how hard it was to get working.

I found it had a lucent chipset so I downloaded the appropriate drivers, compiled them, ran the install and autoload and then used KPPP to configure the modem. It works and took me around 5 minutes from start to finish.
