Im having troubles with my samba config. I FINALLY am able to 'see' my linux box in Network Neighbourhood BUT i have a new problem.
When i double click the icon it shows me this:

You must supply a password to make a connection:

ressource: \\LINUX\IPC$
password:

but when i type the password for one of the accounts or the root account it STILL doesnt let me connect to the box. anyhelp is much oblidged.

Firstly, what version of windows are you running?
If 95/98/ME, I suggest that you log into windows with the username and password of an account that is in the Samba database, and then try to access network neigourhood. Can we also see your smb.conf file please to get a better idea of what you have done?

Thanks, and good luck.

Yes, what the previous poster suggested.
I can understand that swat makes it easier to configure, but certainly I would say that a lot of the stuff that is in the config file now is not needed for a small home network, as it then makes the samba setup harder to troubleshoot in the event of more problems. Do as you wish, but it is just a thought,

I have had this problem before you didn't add users to Samba. Look in /etc/samba/smbpasswd there should be a viewable list of users if there is not. Go into Swat and add your users.
This is the easiest way. Also make sure the users are valid users on you Linux box.
I hope this helps
