I've just installed RH7.2 and am having some trouble connecting to the Internet via the modem. The RH7.2 box has an external modem and one NIC.

Problem 1
-----------------

My route showed the following:-

203.117.32.200 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0

192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0

127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo

default 203.117.32.200 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ppp0

I could not browse any website. Neither can I ping external IPs. I could ping the RH7.2 box and the internal network.

I am very sure I have set my proxy server correctly.

How to get my browser (Galeon) to dial up when needed?

I mean I have point the proxy server setting of the browser to that given by my ISP.

Hi Mark,

Have you tried using Gnome's network setup utility? (assuming you have X-Windows installed) I think you have to be logged into X-Windows under root for it to appear on the list. This helped me immensely when setting up my old network when my Linux box was running RH 7.0. Its called Network Configuration under the System menu.

Not sure how to set it up manually though. Actually, I just posted a question regarding manual setup under Debian.

Thanks. It works after I entered the DNS servers setting. In the config option, it was indicated as optional.
