Firefox font issue

Possibly this has been convered somewhere, but I didn't find it in a quick search.

This image (1280x1024) shows the issue:

At the top of the Google page where it says:

Web Images Video News Maps Gmail more ▼ (http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/?)

I can't get that little box at the end to turn into the down arrow it's supposed to be.

The setup in the fonts dialogue on this Slackware 11 machine looks about the
same as in my Ubuntu machine, but the Ubuntu machine shows the down arrow.
I haven't loaded any Microsoft fonts on either machine.

Possibly the Ubuntu install includes extra fonts that cover these characters and
the Slackware 11 install doesn't.

I had this issue on the Firefox 1.5 install and on this Firefox 2.0 install.

Somebody know the fix?
