I want to get the RT314 to share a DSL line with other boxes. I might have a web server later on. SO is it possible to have a webserver under the router.

Yes, but check your ISP's usage agreement; most broadband carriers forbid users from running servers. If they sniff you out, they can terminate your service without warning. :(

Well my bro who is the one with the DSL line has had apache on his box and other services running for half a year and he hasnt had any problems. KernelPanic also told me that when he signed-up for dsl service from the same company they said that there was no problem if he was running a surver.

So I can run a httpd server under this router?

By what you said, I would imagine it is possible.

Personally, I would verify this with the DSL company myself before I started.

dsl in general allows servers, cable in general doens't allow servers

YMMV

you can run any server behind a router, you just have to forward the ports you want to the box you want to serve them

ie
forward port 80 requests to you internal ip for teh http server (and 443 if you are doing ssl)

btw- you don't have to buy a hardware router, you can do the same thing with an old pc, using linux ;)

Well I tried to buld a router out of my old computer. But I and my local Linux Users Groups couldnt figure out the problem. So instead I bought this netgear router

The netgear router is phenomenal. I'm waiting for the upgrade to it so it can act wireless ;)

Yes you can run a webserver underneath it, and like Fo said, forward the ports which is easy in the admin menu. I do it for counterstrike on my win box :D

Also, DSL lines can run servers usually, but how big is the website or server gonna be? The performance might be really crappy for your users...

If its a fileserver for you when your away thats one thing...
