I have a linux box that has Fedora Core 2. It is home for my email and web site. This was setup by someone else. I created a new box that has Fedora Core 6. I want to switch boxes but I am unable to get the new box to deliver any mail. I am new to linux and I am not sure where to start.

I have installed KDE for the interface on Linux and I have also installed Posfix for the email.

If someone can give me detailed directions what I need to do to get the new box operational it would be of great help. I have been searching and found some information but I have not had any luck yet.

If there is a better version to use I might be willing to switch.

I am not a fan of Fedora but that is really irrelevant when it comes to getting your email. no matter what version of Linux you are using you should be able to send/receive email with ease.
Can I ask why are you using 'postfix' and not a standard email prgramme like Thunderbird or Kmail?

I'm thinking he means that someone setup his old box with FC2 as a webserver and email server. That's probably why he's trying to configure Postfix

take a look at the config file /etc/postfix/main.cf on your fc2 box...that should help you set up the new box. let us know what you find...

My current box does not have Postfix installed. I want to be able to disconnect my current box and use the new one. I have installed postfix on the new box. I am not sure what I need to complete for the new box to work as the web and email server.

Can I update the current box that has FD 2 to have FD 6 without affecting any current settings? If so how do I do that? I have FD 6 on CD's.

But you didn't answer why you need Postfix? Are you using this new computer for a web server and email server?

yes this will be just like the existing box that is why I am wanting to replace the old one. The new box will be email and a web server.

How are you trying to get your mail?

Take a look at http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual_postfix_mysql_quota_courier by Falco Timme.

This is how i set up my mail server, and the how-to's on www.howtoforge.com (http://www.howtoforge.com) take the process to an entire ISP style virtual users/domains setup including an ISP control panel.

Using only the how-to in the first link you should be able to set it up so you can send (SMTP) mails to your server, and receive (POP3, IMAP4) with any mail client
