I have a small question, I don't know how to configure the desktop so that when I watch Mpeg, The monitor goes blank after 5 minutes and I need to move the mouse to get my screen back???

How can I set so that this does not happen??

Thanks

though I'm not very sure of this (never tried it), it might be because of the power management. Look into KDE 2.x Control Center-> PowerControl

Do you have a screensaver enabled, possibly, like the Blank Screen one, set to activate at 5 minutes? If you're in KDE, it's in the K button/Preferences...

If you're not using K, then tell us what you are using. Good luck!

I am using Gnome. I have checked the screen saver and set it to a regular SS . The Time to start , I have set to 0 minutes (I hope it will mean don't start) But the problem persist....

The screen goes blank after 5-7 minutes or so.

I can't find a GUI config to set power management. I have taken a look at control center but it doesn;t have a section on Powert Mgmt.

Please help

Thanks so much

Does Gnome not come with some sort of online documentation? I know KDE includes user guides, faq's and others where you can find answer to most of your questions.

Lots of docs also at www.kde.org (http://www.kde.org)

I wouldn't ask you guys for help if it was that simple....

I have set the screen saver to activate but the screen still turns off. I believe it is a power management option...

I don't know where to set this power saving option, the funny thing was, The screen didn't really turn off, it just went blank and when I move the mouse, the screen just comes back.

Thanks

i believe gnome should have the setting for power management, though I've never used gnome before...

if it's urgent, you can turn it off from the kernel or your BIOS setting first before finding the info in gnome manual.

Well..

I have disabled the Powermgmt in the BIOS but problem remains....

Still can find anywhere that contains a Power mgmt GUI.

Any config files that I can try my luck on?

Could there be a setting in you XF86Config that is controlling the monitor blanking?

I've also seen the command 'xset' recommended for quite a few settings. Though I don't know much about it. See if 'man xset' gets you more info.
