These two seem like a match made in hell, I've been having problems getting the system to recognize the soundcard, as well as the belkin POS wireless-g card. The model number of the card is F5D7010, and I'm having trouble actually finding the specifications of the computer to determine the soundcard model #. The computer is a friends, and I didn't think to figure that out before I swiped it clear of XP...smart guy, right here. Anyway, if you guys have any ideas, I'd be greatly appreciated. I found a possible solution for the network card, but am entirely unclear of how to use it. The NDISWrapper http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/ . again, any help would be appreciated.

My friend has an old toshiba satellite a65 s1362, and I tried to install fedora core on it for him, and it went just fine. Only...the soundcard drivers are missing, and we can't seem to find a decent driver for his wireless network card. The internal NIC is fine, but the belkin wireless g F5D7010 is really becoming a pain in the arse. I'm going to try this NDISWrapper thingy http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/ I found, and I'm hoping I'll be able to figure it out. But any help would be appreciated. The machine also seems to have some trouble with power management, it'll just shut off for no apparent reason and not come back on...even when its plugged into the wall, which was not an issue with XP at all, so I can't attribute it to hardware problems.

The ndiwrapper is relativly easy to use. Just install the ndiswrapper, then ndiswrapper -i /path/to/driver/.inf , then modprobe ndiswrapper

It would work awesomely...if I had the right kernel. I think the kernel is 2.6.11-1 and it needs to be 2.6.6 or something rather. When I tried to run the 'make install' and 'make' commands, and it gave me an odd error...as far as I can tell from what it said, it was hinting at a kernel issue. I have no idea how to rectify that...is there possibly an alternative for the kernel I'm using?

First off, which version of Fedora Core are you running?
Secondly, which version of F5D7010 are you using? (Versions 1-3 are Broadcom chips, version 4 and later use Ralink.)
Lastly, as long as your kernel version is later than that specified, it should work. My guess is that you don't have the kernel devel/headers installed in order to compile your modules. Yum can fix that for you, and if you prefer the gui, then try yumex.

Its Fedora Core 4...I'm using the eth0 LAN connection to try and update the system...but that isn't proving to be too effective, for some reason it seems the RHN servers are slower than christmas, or dead. I keep getting 404s on the files I'm trying to download.
The modem is version 6, so I guess that makes it Ralink.
I'll give this yurnex a try...I'm not sure the kernel is a later version though. Thanks for the help regardless. Do you have any idea where I can find that at?

Probably your friend's.

Double posting doesn't get results any faster :(

The nerve of some people. Think of all the waste generated by a double post. Actually, I thought I was replying to another post when I posted the second one.

Thats my bad really...I think the forums were lagging when I posted this topic originally, and I ended up posting it twice, thinking the first time it didn't make it to the database...either that, or my connection was lagging. Regardless, thanks for the link, it's most helpful :)
