How do I set the default desktop to gnome?

edit your ~/.xinitrc file

you should see the start up for whatever window manager is already starting by default

delete or comment that line

add the line:

exec gnome-session

[EyesWideOpen]

FYI.

You could also edit ~/.xsession.

Mine:

#/usr/bin/sh

gnome-session

[bkurt]

If you are using slack you can also use the command xwmconfig from the command line and that brings you to the menu regarding window managers that you saw when you installed slack.
