I installed GNOME in Debian Linux about two weeks ago, and it was running perfectly. Now I turned on the computer again and, after typing startx GNOME starts loading, but then I get a message that says: Nautilus can't be used now, due to an unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to locate factory.Killing bonobo-activation-server and restarting Nautilus may fix the problem. though I can find no way of restarting Nautilus because my screen is just my cursor over a black-and-white checkered screen that only disappears when I "kill" X server. What happened, and how can I fix it?

my screen is just my cursor over a black-and-white checkered screen that only disappears when I "kill" X server.

Thats because that IS the xserver running, if you right click on that screen you will get a small menu, from there you can open a terminal. From the terminal try restarting Nautilus, and see if it will give you any different errors.

Edit: Did you install Debian Etch or Sarge? Also did this happen after you did a update?

It's Debian Sarge, and no update took place, as this computer doesn't have an internet connection. Is there a command I must input in the terminal to restart Nautilus?

Sorry, but I don't know any of that. I would suggest you start a new thread with those questions, though.
