It's been yrs since I had some SCO training and I still have a hand me down Suse 9.0 manual that I haven't even bothered with

I've had a couple of short stints with other Linux Distros; I'm fairly in with the Suse camp, even after the Novell 'takeover' (which has made finally getting to the downloads a far longer wind through the website.

I recently loaded up OpenSuse 10.2 on my machine, it coexists with ehem 'Vista' in a dual boot configuration. Both systems behaved themselves with the basic installation :p

Unlike Vista, I can use my old Relisys Avec 2400 scanner, on the other hand, my Creative X-Fi is a known thorn in the side that I will have to put up with until someone decides there's something more than just Windows and MACs out there.

My question is in regards to my ATI X1900 AIW, the 'All' isn't of much importance as actually getting the driver installed and figuring out haow to use it without breaking something else. At lease that's what I think occurred... as all of a sudden I couldn't do a drag, as soon as I held the mouse button down, I couldn't mover the mouse until I released the button. I did mess with my mouse configuration and it could have happened then *smack*

I DL'ed the latest driver, hunted the web in search of how to install the driver using ATI's self installer (a .run file) Funny enough I found the command line entry sh in a link to NVidias website. The installer ran, I got a nice little ATI screen taking me through the install

After the installer was completed however, I was told to back up a .conf file (xorg?) I had expected to find it in root/bin/X11R6/etc but there was no etc folder at which point I was befuddled

Where did I mess up?

Keep in mind I haven't gone hard core Command line since OS2 Warp
thx

The path is /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Ah there it is... but this is under my own usr account, shouldn't this be done in root?
When I go to look in the root etc there's no X11 folder
...

Isn't the web a wonderful thing; I couldn't do a simple cp of the file I had to do sudo cp to create the backup, I assume this stands for SuperUser do copy

As I mentioned it's been a couple years, but isn't a graphics card driver installation performed in root? All other hardware configuration needs admin access.
Like I said, I'm essentially a complete newbie as far as hardware configuration in Linux is concerned

Looks like the installation of the driver worked :D

Think my problems are based on folder hierarchy within root and usr
