I have a hp pavilion notebook ..it has an AMD turion64 mobile ml-32 and 1GB of ram. I use windows xp media center edition. I love photoshop cs2 and other graphic programs that I use on this notebook. all of my programs are ******. I've used ****** and ****** to use and update them. I've always wanted to run linux but know very little about it. I've try fadora5 b4 but was unsuccessful getting it online. For this notebook and for my programs, wich I can not part with, what would you pros think would be the best distro out the for me to cross over with?.. and wich one is completely free..would it accept my windows programs or will I have to stick with windows cuz of them? thanx u all in advance for any useful advice.

I'll recommend that you start off with ubuntu or kubuntu and use the gimp. It's not worthwhile to try and get those windows programs working on linux at all. If you LIKE windows, and are VERY used to the way it works, linux is going to be very frustrating for you. So if you _have_ to have those particular programs, just stick to windows and save us all a headache ;)
