I don't have the heart to completely delete the windows OS on my main computer because it is what runz all the amazing games, but i want to setup linux on it too for web security and such,,plus linux ownes on windows. :D

my main question is, i have a hardrive formatted by windows, 3 partitions, 1 windows OS,,,2 just random windows files,,,3 i havent done anything with it, but it is still partitioned....i want to know if i can use the 3rd partition to install linux,,but i dont know how to go about that and it still work :o

i would use the extra 10 gig harddrive i have, but my computer seems to refuse reading both drives at once......((perhapse it is because im only using 1 ribbon cable))

any help would be greatly appreciated
thnx

To answer your question, yes, you can use the 3rd partition...

However, let me be the first to recommend Ubuntu linux (ubuntu.com). It's very user friendly, but before doing a full blown install, you might want to tinker with their live CDs to get a "feel" for it.

Other wonderful linux variants include Knoppix, Gentoo, Fedora, Mandrake, Damm Small Linux (for those REALLY old machines) and a bunch of others...
More information can be had over at distrowatch.com

As far as your 2 HDDs not "talking" to each other, check their jumper settings. Make sure one is set to Master (the Windows bootable disk) and Slave on the 10 GB disk...

Other than that, Welcome aboard!
