for those worried about the recent events with Wind River/BSDi and their actions toward the Slackware team, Patrick finally gives his reply on the situation:

hopefully all goes well and PLEASE support the development by purchasing the new version when 7.2 comes out soon...

cheers

Definatly nice to see that Slackware 'production' will continue. (Personally my favorite flavor. Oh, wait...the only flavor I've ever used. Oh well. :) )

Anyway, keep supporting Patrick and his team, everyone. They do a great job.

Absolutely! If you do read the post on SW, please note that Pat and the gang need some capital to get going and probably a little beer money on the side wouldnt hurt. ;) Please email paypal@slackware.com for donations.

(edited after reading the posts below - sorry Pat )

hiyas,

i wouldn't doubt that that person at the donation site has good intentions, but pat already setup a paypal account and warns against donating throught that link:

Ok, guys. If you are going to buy Slackware-7.2, please buy it directly from their upcoming online store.

Don't purchase anything, yet, from WindRiver(walnut-creek).

Again. Please wait for the upcoming Slackware Online Store.

Here's Pat's blurb about it:
It should be in stores, too (we're negotiating with our channel directly), but purchasing online directly from us (once we have our own secure online store site, something else we have to look at real soon) will benefit Slackware the most. Whenever a sale is made through a distributor who then sells to a store they keep most of the profit, not us.

We're just like a garage band with a big record contract. ;)

The effort these guys make in putting out a quality product deserves some compensation. Personally, I have no problem paying $24-$30 for a Linux distro and would if I used Slackware. Unfortunately for them, I'm a Caldera user. Maybe in time I will take the plunge and set up a separate Slack Box. For now, Slack has my moral support. :D
