I am an Old Geezer Newbie who has just purchased a Lexmark Z645m printer. When I hooked it up to my USB port and booted up it said something like "Hey. you have a new Lexmark Z640 series printer. Would you like to install it?" Well, not a exact quote. Of course I said yes. I then went to the GNOME print icon. When I got to the wizard page where I am suppose to select a printer I could not find anything for the Lexmark Z645m or even anything close. I tried differant Lexmark printer but everytime I tried printing I came up with an error message saying "Media Tray Empty." I assume that meant I was out of paper, but I wasn't. How can I make this work with Linux? I have Fedora Core installed (Red Hat Linux 10). Please keep it simple.

http://linuxprinting.org calls this printer a "paperweight", which means it's totally worthless under linux...

i done some research using google for u..
no linux drivers from lexmark are available z645m, they have a linux driver development kit. it doesn't look like anyone has written drivers yet either.
i checked out http://www.linuxcompatible.org and no entries made for z645m.
there is nothing else out there google can turn over. i recon its safe to assume no compatability yet. usb hotplug and identity hardware by vendor / hardware codes. redhat probably couldn't install because there was no drivers :(
maybe i'm wrong i don't know. keep looking around on www.google.com if ya like ;)
peace,
