Anyone else had problems with the Ximian Gnome Desktop environemnt and lockups? I just downloaded the software on my Red Hat 7.2 system and have had no luck with it. I really like it, but it just keeps freezing up on me. I have all the latest updates and everything, but I still get these random and frequent lockups. Thanks.

No, I am running the stuff on RH6.2 flawlessly. I would suspect that the issue you are seeing lies someplace other than in the Ximian software. I wish I had some idea where to look, but......

Is your whole system freezing up so the only way to reboot is by pushing the reset button?

I had the same problem and could never figure out why. It's a shame too, since other than that it's a great product.

If nothing seems to be working, then instead of using the reset button hold down Alt and Print Screen and press R, S, E, I, U, B, and as if by magic it'll reboot, and it will have synced your disks, so you won't have to run fsck at reboot time. Hurrah!

Have you tried their online knowledge base? I would try searching it. If you already have, try subscribing to their registered users list. I'm pretty sure it's free. I have the Ximian Desktop on RH 7.1 and have had no problems at all.
Good Luck.

Yes, when the system decides to hang the entire system hangs. I have to hit the reset button in order to get it to restart. I find it myself hard to belive that it is the software itself. That's why I posted to see if anyone else had this problem. I'm guessing it might be some of my hardware settings or something. I'll have to play with my hdparm settings as I know those settings can cause an unstable system. I don't really have any problems with having to run fsck after a reset since I'm using Red Hat 7.2 and ext3 with journaling, but thanks for the tip. I'll report back if I can find out anything.

Well, I've played with my hdparm settings and got all the latest updates off of red carpet and still no luck. It locks up constantly. I'm pretty stuck as to why. Anyone else had this problem and solved it?
