Upon installation of Mandrake 8.0, ALSA doesn't work with my sound card. Normally I just disable it and use the 'sndconfig' utility to get everything going.

But I've been reading around that ALSA is superior and I'm bent on getting it working. Does anyone know how to go about getting it to work with my AWE32? I know the settings for the card (as used in sndconfig): iRQ:7 DMA:1,5

Should I try and get ALSA going with my setup? Will it make much of a difference over just 'sndconfig'?

I have a awe32 as well, and I just use the sb.o kernel module (what you get when you run sndconfig). Never had a problem, so I never had a desire to try alsa.

They say don't fix what's not broken, but where's the fun in that?

After running sndconfig everything works perfectly fine, but I just want to TRY alsa. After all, it is ADVANCED linux sound. If anything the name deserves a chance! :)
