Hey, i can't seem to find an installation guide for Linux :-(

I'm a total newbie for Linux... I started out with Dos a couple of years back and i hated windows when it came out... the idea was great but the program itself sucked. Now with the upcoming WinXP i really wanna leave the building! However... i still want to be able to get to windows to play games or to program in the devshed.

So i heard of a little somethin called vmware that is ran on linux and can switch os's like switching from netscape to explorer.

I'm totally familiar with the windows installation (format c: & boot with the cd in cd-drive) But i don't really think it'll be that easy with linux. So i'm hoping for a step-per-step manual like:
1) format hd
2) goto e:
3) run setup.exe

Is there anything like this ? A simple guide for installing Linux from scratch ?

Many thanks from a total newbie called Cyberwulf

ADDON: Typicall... i just found it at the linux.com website.

1.reboot
2.boot from cd
3.follow directions on screen

installation is becoming increasingly more easy as versions update...

edit: i know because i am a newbie! :D

Like he said, installation is getting pretty easy. I'd reccomend using Mandrake or RedHat as they have very simple installs and are great for newbies. Just put the CD in the drive and restart the computer, it should start the setup automatically then the instructions are simple.

Why not start with the installation NHF's here (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/installation/index.html) and also read the online user guides from your distro's website. Most have them.

Could also be on the install CD. Of course if you purchase the retail package, you will have a hardcopy of the install guide.
